Influenza, also called as “Flu”, is a contagious viral infection of the nose, throat, and lungs. It can make a person feel very sick with high fever, throat pain, cold and cough.

Who Should Get the Flu Vaccine?

Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older.

Why Flu Vaccine is recommended?

Though flu vaccine isn't 100% effective, it still greatly reduces individual chances of getting the flu, which can be very serious.

It also can make symptoms less severe if someone does still get the flu after immunization. Also if the parents, other caregivers get the flu vaccine that will help protect the babies who are less than 6 months of age and not eligible for the flu vaccine. This is important because children are more at risk for serious problems from the flu.

Flu vaccines are especially beneficial for high-risk children who suffer from diabetes, asthma, immune deficiencies, metabolic disorders, kidney disease, etc.

Why Flu Vaccine is recommended every year?

These vaccines are very safe and have very mild side effects. Those who have very severe allergy to eggs should inform the doctor prior to taking this vaccine.
