13-year-old boy gets a new lease of life post kidney transplantation

Master Mohammed Rafiq, 13-year-old boy was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2013, and over a period of time, he developed end stage renal disease in 2017. He was on regular dialysis for almost 7 months. He visited Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, for further management of the disease and after evaluation, the family was counselled the best option being kidney transplantation. Master Rafiq’s mother came forward to donate her kidneys, but was not found to be a suitable donor and the family had registered the patient for cadaver kidney transplant. Recently, he underwent a kidney transplantation at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, through a cadaver donation. The transplant was successfully performed by Dr. Amol K Patil, Urologist & Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Ravindra Nikalji, Nephrologist and supported by a team of specialists. The patient was discharged on 6th post-operative day with normal kidney function and is doing well now.
