TOUCHING LIVES

Liver Transplant of their little one fills parents’ life with joy

When Trishna looked down at her 6-month old baby, who would cry incessantly, she felt helpless. The parents then decided to take their baby to a family doctor who noticed swelling in young Devansh’s stomach. She advised the parents to get a sonography to understand the ailment troubling their little one. The test revealed fluid accumulation in the stomach, a symptom of Budd Chiari syndrome - an extremely rare condition. As his conditioned worsened and oxygen levels depleted, Trishna and her husband, Tushar decided to consult Dr. Darius F Mirza, Consultant, Liver Transplant Surgery and Dr Vikram Raut, Consultant Liver Transplant Surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai. The specialists ordered several tests and on diagnosis, decided to block his shunt, so that Devansh could undergo a liver transplant. While the parents were taken aback by the costs of the transplantation procedure, a social worker helped them with crowd funding that eventually enabled the child to undergo surgery. Devansh has since recovered and lives his life like every other normal child. His parents thanked the entire team of Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai for making this happen.
