7 year old boy gets a new lease of life post living donor Liver Transplant

Karathi, 7 year old boy from Mumbai was suffering from advanced liver disease. He presented with jaundice and also had severe itching problems. On clinical investigations it was found that he had a genetic mutation and was suffering from progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis. His liver disease rapidly progressed and the Liver transplant team at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai advised him to undergo liver transplantation. Both his parents were not suitable donors and seeing his ailing nephew Karthi’s aunt donated the left lateral segment of her liver, to give him a new lease of life. His post-operative course was uneventful and he is doing well post-transplant as any other normal kid.
