Levels of Care

Level 1

Patients at risk of their condition deteriorating, or higher levels of care whose needs can be met on advice and support from the critical care team.

Level 2

Patients requiring more detailed observation or intervention, single failing organ system or postoperative care, and higher levels of care.

Level 3

Patients requiring advanced respiratory support alone or basic respiratory support together with support of at least two organ systems. This level includes all complex patients requiring support for multi-organ failure.

High dependency can refer to level 1 or 2 whereas intensive care usually means level 2 or 3.

  • Complete and comprehensive care for any cardiac emergencies-cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrhythmia, with rapid- door to balloon time
  • Management of all types of shock state
  • Management of cardiorespiratory arrest by dedicated CPR team
  • Thrombolytic therapy for acute pulmonary , thrombo- embolism and acute ischemic stroke
  • Renal and hepatic failure care
  • All kinds of sepsis including oncology, post transplant, immunocompromised patients
  • Neurological emergencies
  • All kinds of surgical and obstetrics emergencies
  • Poly trauma : which includes head injury, extensive chest trauma, abdominal injury, orthopedic emergency and facial trauma
  • Care for pre-operative high-risk patient, intra and post-operative complicated patient (including care of complicated GI, orthopaedic, neuro, onco, bariatric surgeries and acute pancreatitis)
  • TPN (Total Parental Nutrition)
  • ECMD
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy : specialised dialysis for shock state patient and for patient who cannot tolerate intermittent dialysis due to poor tolerability.
  • Care for poisoning patient
  • Palliative care (Pain relief) for terminally ill
  • Intermediate care at HDU (High Dependency Unit)
